What DMARC adds
DMARC tells receivers how to handle mail that fails SPF or DKIM alignment, and where to send aggregate or forensic reports.
Roll out gradually
Monitor at p=none with pct=100 so every failure is reported while nothing is blocked — pct only samples whether a policy is applied, and p=none applies nothing. Save pct for ramping quarantine, then reject.

Should I start with reject?+−
No. Most teams start with p=none to collect rua reports, confirm SPF and DKIM alignment, then tighten policy over weeks.
What is pct?+−
The share of failing messages the policy is actually applied to (RFC 7489 §6.6.4). It has no effect under p=none — there is nothing to apply, so pct=10 and pct=100 behave identically. Use it to ramp quarantine or reject from a fraction of mail up to all of it.
Does this configure my ESP?+−
No. You still publish the TXT in DNS and complete any provider-side DMARC or reporting setup they require.
