What the result means

Roll out gradually: start at p=none to collect rua reports while nothing is blocked, move to p=quarantine to send failures to spam, then tighten to p=reject once SPF and DKIM alignment are confirmed. Use pct to ramp quarantine or reject from a fraction of mail up to all of it.

DMARC tells receivers how to handle mail that fails SPF or DKIM alignment, and where to send aggregate or forensic reports.

How do I create a DMARC record?

Publish a TXT record at _dmarc.yourdomain.com whose value starts with v=DMARC1, then add your policy (p=none to start), reporting addresses (rua), and alignment settings. Pick those values with the generator above, copy the record, and add it in your DNS provider's panel — the same way you published SPF and DKIM.

Should I start with reject?

No. Most teams start with p=none to collect rua reports, confirm SPF and DKIM alignment, then tighten policy over weeks.

What is pct?

The share of failing messages the policy is actually applied to (RFC 7489 §6.6.4). It has no effect under p=none — there is nothing to apply, so pct=10 and pct=100 behave identically. Use it to ramp quarantine or reject from a fraction of mail up to all of it.

Does this configure my ESP?

No. You still publish the TXT in DNS and complete any provider-side DMARC or reporting setup they require.
